Model History

The 1957 Cadillac Series 62 captured the glamour and optimism of mid-century America, embodying Cadillac’s reputation as the “Standard of the World.” With its long, low silhouette, dramatic tailfins, and expansive chrome accents, the Series 62 made a commanding statement of style and sophistication. The redesigned body for 1957 introduced a sleeker look with lower rooflines and a wider stance, giving the car a modern presence that resonated with buyers who sought both elegance and innovation.

Inside, the Series 62 offered an atmosphere of luxury tailored to driver and passengers alike. Plush fabrics or fine leathers, polished trim, and spacious seating made the cabin as comfortable as it was stylish. Power steering, power brakes, and available features such as power windows and automatic climate control further elevated the driving experience, making the car as convenient as it was beautiful. Beneath the hood, Cadillac’s 365 cubic-inch V8 delivered smooth, effortless performance, ensuring that the Series 62 was not just about looks but also about refined power.

What made the 1957 Cadillac Series 62 especially attractive was its perfect blend of cutting-edge design, comfort, and performance. It stood as a rolling symbol of success and the aspirational spirit of the 1950s, cementing Cadillac’s place at the forefront of American luxury.

Brief Description

This 1957 Cadillac Series 62 was acquired by the CMR Private Collection in late 2019. This vehicle is one of 9,000 convertible examples produced for the model year and was delivered new in Dakota Red (50). The car was refinished under the previous ownership. Upon entering our collection, we wet-sanded, buffed, and polished the paintwork, replated some of the brightwork, replaced trim pieces (including the gold emblems), and reconditioned the fuel tank.

Power comes from a 365ci V8 and is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The engine is factory rated at 300 horsepower, and features a rebuilt Delco-Remy generator. The engine block stamping reads 5762085785 and matches the number stamped into the frame. The same number is listed on the title as the VIN, prepended with a "1".

The steel 15" wheels wear covers with color Cadillac center crests and are mounted with BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted brakes. A spare is mounted in the carpeted trunk area.

The interior features front and rear bench seats upholstered in tan, while the floors are covered by darker brown carpeting. Features include an AM radio, a front armrest, an electric clock with an instruction tag, and an under-dash heater.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges and warning lamps. The five-digit odometer shows just under 36k miles, approximately 100 of which were added while the vehicle was in our possession. True mileage is unknown.
