The 1966 Pontiac Bonneville stood as the pinnacle of Pontiac’s full-size lineup, offering a masterful blend of performance, luxury, and bold American styling. Distinguished by its long, low stance and clean body lines, the Bonneville projected a commanding presence on the road. A new stacked headlight design emphasized its modern look, while generous use of chrome and refined trim details highlighted its premium position within Pontiac’s range. The convertible and hardtop versions, in particular, captured the public’s attention with their balance of elegance and sportiness.


Beneath the hood, the Bonneville came standard with Pontiac’s powerful 389 cubic-inch V8 engine, delivering smooth, responsive performance. Buyers seeking more excitement could opt for larger engines, including the 421 cubic-inch V8, which offered impressive horsepower and torque. The Bonneville’s ride quality was equally noteworthy, pairing Pontiac’s Wide-Track chassis engineering with luxury-level comfort, making it ideal for both spirited driving and long-distance cruising.


Inside, the Bonneville featured a richly appointed cabin, with options such as leather upholstery, wood-grain accents, and a wide array of power conveniences that elevated the driving experience.


What made the 1966 Pontiac Bonneville especially attractive to the public was its rare combination of muscle and refinement—an automobile that embodied Pontiac’s reputation for performance while delivering the sophistication expected in a flagship model.


Brief Description


This 1966 Pontiac Bonneville convertible has been refinished in Montero Red (R) over red, and its carbureted 389ci V8 is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the rear wheels. Features include a black soft top, chrome-finished bumpers, and ‘Bonneville’ badging across the front fenders and doors on either side of the car. This car was acquired by the in 2018, and was refurbished under previous ownership. Pontiac built 16,229 convertible versions of the Bonneville for the 1966 model year.


Steel 14" wheels wear PMD-branded covers with spinner-style centers. They are mounted with 6.50-14 BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires over drum brakes at each corner.


The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench with red upholstery. Matching carpeting and trim is present throughout, and a full-length console with woodgrain trim covers the transmission tunnel. An AM radio is mounted in the dashboard.


A multi-color two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a clock, an ammeter, and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, approximately 125 of which have been added since 2018. True mileage is unknown.


The carbureted 389ci V8 was rebuilt by the previous owner, and features a black air-cleaner assembly with a snorkel. Service since that time has included fluid changes and replacement of the battery.
