Model History

The 1990 Cadillac Allante was a striking example of American luxury and innovation, blending European-inspired design with Cadillac’s commitment to comfort and craftsmanship. Introduced in the late 1980s as a two-seat luxury convertible, the Allante was notable for its unique collaboration with Italy’s Pininfarina, which hand-built the body panels in Turin before they were shipped to the United States for final assembly. This international partnership gave the Allante sleek, aerodynamic styling that stood apart from typical American convertibles, with clean lines, a low profile, and an elegant, contemporary aesthetic that appealed to buyers seeking both luxury and exclusivity.

Under the hood, the 1990 Allante featured a 4.5-liter V8 engine paired with Cadillac’s smooth automatic transmission, providing refined performance suited to high-speed cruising and comfortable city driving alike. Its fully independent suspension and well-tuned chassis delivered a supple, confident ride, reinforcing the vehicle’s grand touring credentials.

Inside, the Allante offered a driver-focused cabin with leather seating, premium materials, and an array of power-operated features including windows, seats, and climate control. Optional amenities such as premium audio systems and electronic instrumentation enhanced the modern luxury experience.

What made the 1990 Cadillac Allante especially attractive was its combination of bespoke European styling, refined American engineering, and convertible elegance—making it a symbol of sophistication, exclusivity, and forward-thinking design in Cadillac’s lineup.

Brief Description

The car was first sold in Pennsylvania, and remained in the state until it was acquired by the CMR Private Collection in 2018. Subsequent maintenance included replacement of the tires, reconditioning of the fuel injectors, and a recharge of the air-conditioning refrigerant.

This 1990 Cadillac Allanté is finished in black with a matching convertible top over black leather, and power comes from a transversely-mounted 4.5-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transaxle. Equipment includes 16″ alloy wheels, power-adjustable seats, automatic climate control, an onboard computer, LCD instrumentation, a carphone, and a Delco Symphony sound system with a CD player. Silver-finished 16″ alloy wheels with Cadillac-crest center caps wear 225/60 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires showing 2018 date codes, and a temporary spare wheel and tire are mounted in the trunk.

The cabin is equipped with power-adjustable seats covered in black leather, along with matching black door panels and gray carpets with Allanté-script floor mats. Additional amenities include electric windows, automatic climate control, an onboard computer, and a Delco Symphony sound system with an in-dash CD player, as well as a carphone mounted in the front center armrest.

The leather-wrapped steering fronts a digital LCD instrument cluster that includes a 150-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, along with gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates just under 11k miles, approximately 200 of which were added while in our possession.
